Jet lag and motivation

My productivity this weekend has been awful in comparison to what I wanted to get done. No one to blame but myself, as I have had zero external distractions. I am blaming the jet lag.

There is, I feel, something about jet lag that seems to make you want to sit in front of the TV, or a PC game, and just zone out. Just escape from everything that needs done.

I had cleaning, laundry, and writing stuff that I needed to do this weekend – I got about 10% of it done. My Sims 4 characters were more productive than me as I spent hours playing my games this weekend. Though in hindsight I should never play the Sims when I have other things to do, always just one more whim, or event, or day, to do.

What I did get done I wasn’t very happy with, and it was a hard slog to get that. I wrote up the revision notes for the short story I wrote on holiday, started on Scene 1, then about 8pm Sunday I had to throw in the towel and hope that Monday will be more productive for me.

Part of my problem is I have an unrelated story idea in my head, it’s fun, it’s new, it’s different, but I can’t write it yet. I don’t want to write it yet. It’s shiny, and pretty and wants to live inside my head where it’s an easy idea, and I don’t know where it’s going.

Monday will see me, hopefully, being productive on the cleaning side so I can use those achievements to kick start my editing process/motivation, and escape the new idea long enough to get it done. If I can’t get the focus on the short story under control, I might have to write the idea just to get it out of my head. But this also feels like I’m cheating on my revision by letting myself be distracted.

We will see how the rest of the week progresses.
