Privacy Policy
Who we are
Our website address is: https://jemmaweir.com.
This site is operated by Jemma Weir. If you have any questions about this policy or how your data is handled, you can contact us via the Contact Us page.
What personal data we collect and why
Newsletter sign-up
If you sign up to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and, if provided, your name) via EmailOctopus, our email marketing provider. We use this to send you updates about new releases, free stories, and other author news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send you. EmailOctopus’s own privacy policy is available here: https://emailoctopus.com/privacy-policy.
Purchases
If you buy a book or product directly through this site, payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. We do not see or store your full payment card details — these are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy may collect your name, email address, billing address, and payment information in order to process your order, prevent fraud, and comply with tax obligations. Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy is available here: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.
If you purchase through a third-party retailer (such as Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, or via a Books2Read link), your data is handled according to that retailer’s own privacy policy, not ours.
Media
If you upload images to this website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the site can download and extract any location data from images.
Cookies
We use a cookie consent tool to let you choose which cookies you’re comfortable with. When you first visit, you’ll be asked to Accept All, Deny, or Customise your preferences by category. You can change your mind at any time via the cookie settings link in the site footer.
Here’s what the different categories cover on this site:
Necessary cookies — required for the site to function, such as remembering your cookie consent choice itself, and standard WordPress security cookies.
Functional cookies — if you interact with our newsletter sign-up pop-up, EmailOctopus (our email marketing provider) may set cookies as part of that process. If you log in to the site, cookies save your login information and screen display choices: login cookies last two days, screen option cookies last a year, and if you select “Remember Me” your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.
Bot protection — our newsletter sign-up form uses Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam submissions, which sets its own cookie. Google’s privacy policy is available here: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
We don’t use advertising or social media tracking cookies on this site.
If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie also checks whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Embedded content from other websites
Some pages on this site include embedded content from other websites — for example, Goodreads review widgets on book pages, or embedded checkout content from Lemon Squeezy. Embedded content behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited that website directly.
These third-party websites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content — including tracking your interaction if you’re logged into an account with them (such as a Goodreads account).
Link tracking
We use Track The Click to see how often the links on this site (such as retailer buy links) are clicked. This helps us understand which links and books are getting the most attention. Track The Click records click counts on our links; it does not track your general browsing activity elsewhere on the web.
Who we share your data with
- EmailOctopus — for newsletter delivery and management
- Lemon Squeezy — for processing direct purchases and payments
- Track The Click — for link click tracking
- If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
How long we retain your data
If you register an account on this site, we store the personal information in your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except your username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.
Newsletter subscriber data is retained by EmailOctopus for as long as you remain subscribed, or until you request deletion.
Purchase records are retained by Lemon Squeezy in line with their own retention policies, generally as required for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account on this site, made a purchase, or subscribed to our newsletter, you can request:
- An exported file of the personal data we hold about you
- That we erase personal data we hold about you (excluding data we’re legally required to retain for administrative, legal, tax, or security purposes)
- That we correct any inaccurate personal data
To make a request, please get in touch via our Contact Us page. For data held by EmailOctopus or Lemon Squeezy specifically, you may also be able to exercise your rights directly with them, using the contact details in their respective privacy policies.
If you’re located in the UK or EU, you have rights under UK GDPR / EU GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office — ico.org.uk) if you believe your data has been mishandled.
Where your data is sent
Newsletter and purchase data is processed by EmailOctopus and Lemon Squeezy respectively, both of which may process data outside the UK/EU; both providers maintain their own compliance frameworks for international data transfers, details of which are available in their respective privacy policies linked above.
