JEMMA'S BLOG

Inkfeather Pages

Inkfeather Pages is where I share the messier, more honest side of writing life — drafting, revising, the odd garden-fatigued Sunday, and everything in between. Expect notes from the desk, behind-the-scenes glimpses of works in progress, and the occasional ramble about what it actually takes to finish a novel.

Jemma Weir is a Scottish indie author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy with bite: magic is messy, love is fierce, and family means everything. Fantasy was her first love. Now she writes the kind of stories she always wanted to read — gritty, heartfelt, and just a little unhinged.

Writing a Series

I thought writing a series would be the same as writing a novel; I was wrong. There are so many more factors that you need to focus on, and you need to know about when you write the first book. A lot of those factors might already exist in a book; you just use them differently when you write one book, to when you’re writing three or five or twenty. Series have always drawn me

May Projects

Over the last few weeks, I have been working on three main writing projects. The Second Sight and Earth bound revisions, as well as a new short story called Ghosted for another anthology I am submitting too. Second Sight is getting close to its re-release. It’s with the (hopefully) final beta readers/bug hunters now. Once I have that feedback, I will be able to do its final revision. I am hoping, all going well, that

Focusing… Sometimes on the shiny things

This last week my focus has been much better. I got a lot more done in the time I had and got to have some of the downtime I wanted. Of course, that does not mean I was 100% successful. It is going to take conscious effort to maintain. Organisation and prioritisation are both required. Neither of which I am good at when there are no deadlines except the ones I set. Mostly I got

Focused like… Ohh Shinny

This last week was a series of procrastination and focus issues. I got Second Sight revised and sent to my writers’ group for review – eventually – and got the plan made for Earth Bound. It took far longer to do both than I would have liked, and I ended up with almost no free time outside doing these by the end of the weekend (rounding Monday into this because it ran over). If it
