Meet Logan Fraser: Why Logan Fraser Became the Heart of Death & Visions

Last week, I shared how this whole journey began with a short story—a tale I thought would stand alone, only to discover it was just the tip of the iceberg. That story laid the foundation for a world shaped by loss, supernatural inheritance, and the cost of power. But as I revised and expanded, one character kept pulling me back: Detective Sergeant Logan Fraser.

Why Logan Fraser?

Logan wasn’t meant to be the centre of this world. In the original draft, he was a supporting act—a detective orbiting a young woman’s tragedy. But the more I wrote, the more I found myself asking: Who is this man, really? Why does he feel like the emotional anchor I didn’t know I needed?

Logan trained in America, where justice meant evidence, procedure, and the scientific method. When he returned to the UK, he joined the Met and did his time in London—long enough to understand how things worked, and how little room there was for logic when Visions ruled the system. Seers have always been in charge. Their prophecies shape verdicts, steer investigations, and override the facts. The police are part of the structure, technically, but rarely respected. Logan was never included. Not properly. Not where it mattered.

Now, in Edinburgh, that’s changed. Seers are pulling him into cases, demanding his presence, but still questioning his purpose. He’s not just solving crimes—he’s trying to reconcile everything he was trained to believe with a justice system that runs on prophecy, not proof. And he’s doing it while raising his daughter, Dani, and carrying the quiet ache of personal loss.

The Story That Grew Teeth

What started as a novella to explore Logan’s arc quickly grew into something much bigger. The more I wrote, the more I realised Logan’s story wasn’t just about a case—it was about finding belonging, facing grief, and challenging a system that doesn’t always make sense. The world expanded, the stakes grew, and suddenly I was writing a full-blown novel.

But I wanted readers to meet Logan at the very beginning—to see him on his first day in Edinburgh, before the politics and secrets really take hold. That’s how the prequel, Blindsided, was born. I promised myself it would be a lean, focused introduction. (Spoiler: it still managed to sneak in family dynamics, office politics, and the emotional grit that makes Logan who he is.)

Why Logan Matters

Logan Fraser is the kind of character who refuses to be background noise. He’s flawed, determined, and deeply loyal. He’s the guy who’ll ask the awkward questions, push back against authority, and still make it home in time to help his daughter with dinner—even if it’s just pancakes. Writing him has been a lesson in balancing vulnerability with strength, and it’s his perspective that keeps this world grounded, no matter how strange things get.
